Today we live in an era of globalization. A era where we cannot work in silos. A era where economy of one superpower like the United States of America influences the world economy. A era where timely information is the key. The role of media starts here.

Media plays a vital role in bringing the world together. It makes the world too smaller place to live in. You may tune into any news channel and you will find a politician from Bangalore, a politician from Delhi, a Newsroom expert from Mumbai & a Bureau chief of New York Times all on one panel, debating a topic which is of a large interest. So it would be right to say that as long as it is used for constructive purposes, Media has no boundaries or limitations to its coverage.

Having said about the power of media & its job to provide us with timely information, it also becomes equally important for it to share the information in a manner which could be well understood. Also it is important that the facts are presented in a neutral & unbiased manner.

Recently there is a much hyped “Big Bang” experiment going on. Just before the first day when the machine was started, I saw a national news channel which was saying that “Is this the last Thursday we are witnessing?” At the same time, I tuned into another news channel which just informed its viewers that the Big Bang experiment is about to start. It also said about the aim of the experiment at the same time communicated that there was nothing in the experiment that we all should be worried about. Now both these news channels were doing their job. But I found the second news channel to have behaved in a much more responsible manner than the first one.
