  • Refresh and remodel are strategy for survival used by us over the ages. How a person cope with the learning and unlearning experiences is important. we are in a technology driven progressive economy where speed is the key to survive, hence the stress. Values sometime taking the back sit. We are refreshing first then trying to remodel ourselves for the world. Since we live in time we should believe in relevance of time. • Well, its an ongoing saga isnt it? All those who succeed do it all the time in any dynamic environ.. if we dont do it we would never succeed or lets say FLOAT? Read the book - how to swim with teh sharks and not be eaten up?

How do you do this? Eyes and ears open - recast fine tune skill sets and strategies to succeed..

As some of you ahve said - no direct answers to this Q... too broad a topic.. :) Answered by Usha Ramesh , Consultant - Branding & Special Projects at Al Baraka Banking Group | 25, Jul 2010 02:22 PM

  • The phrase " TOUGH TIMES" is by itself irrelevant and the term refresh & remodel are only anecdotes from Management books to give a forceful impact or push to build a concept.
Necessity is the mother of all invention and hence all things in this world cannot be stationary or changeless it has to evolve and change with times. To give a name like remodel or refresh is but a pure act of selfishness seeking recognition for an activity which had taken place on its own due to the necessity of those times.

  • Whether refresh or remodel the approach is same can only be done when you can pinpoint the issue. I am scared if our focus is getting shifted and using tough time as an excuse. Ofcourse time is tough but for that we need to be more alert and proactive than ordinary times. I know of cases who just came back from a mall not because the decor of the mall was not up to the mark or the price was a factor or something else BUT simply because NOBODY ATTENDED HER. I am not discounting the problems raised by you they are very relevent and correct. I am saying we should be always focussed on our goal and then decide. • True. Any decision on any issue should be specific to the issue. No broad decision across the board is possible. People today do not make a 360 deg. focus when solving the issues.

  • HI,

The current atmosphere is paving way for tougher times with added competition too , so to stay ahead with the consumers in the retail industry REMODELING is the right aspect, since consumers always tend to look at new ideas, good concept, better variety etc.. Keeping the tastes and preferences of the consumers it can be easily acheived i dont think so its a tough task especially as far the reatial industry is concerned since they are known for their tremendous eye catching and innovative ideas

  • Today consumers have been bombarded with so much in so short time like all the big malls offers a variety of goods and facilities it has led to a confusion in mind of consumers and thus they have so to say got lost in this barrage of offers.
It is neither refresh or remodel.what is required is direct involvement of consumers thru questionnaires and offer some thing extra to those loyal customers who have been with you for say more that 2 years and ask them what is it they are looking for. Many a times in marketing direct questions give direct answers and this I feel is the order of the day. • Easy question calling for a tough answer. The say is tough times never last but tough people do. The same applies for all the matters.. To stay ahead in tough times, you or your company or your product needs to be tougher than at least your lower level competitors. Refresh is the one needed on continuous basis- say daily or weekly or yearly and remodeling is needed on short and medium term basis. Theses factors and the duration of the term needs to be decided based on the business and market you are in. Answered by Prabhakaran Viswanathan , Director at iswari universal | 19, Jul 2010 09:38 PM

  • Nicely quoted tough times never last but tough people do.
Refresh is the need of the hour & should be done on a continuous basis. Remodeling is essential but depends upon the number of factors like how early the competitors are coming up with the new models, the market structure & understanding the demands of the customer..

When change frequency is high, with shorter wavelengths there is need for quicker readings of all the diagnostic parameters (customer needs, 4Ps, competition, environment, regulation etc., etc.) to be able to prescribe the correct solutions and dosage.

  • Understanding shopping trip is very important as u rihtly mentioned. Since most shoppers opt for ambience/experience while shopping, it is important for the grocer to look into it. His competition is not only from self service stores but also ambience & experience. If a grocer doesn't remodel to make shopping an ocassion with the family rather than Mundane grocery shopping, it will prove to be difficult. Also the shop should give an experience for the whole family & not only the shopper as u must engage all family members & just not te grocery shpper. Hence it is important to remodel to stay releant in tough times. Answered by Seshasai Vinjamuri , Channel Manager at Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) | 19, Jul 2010 04:11 PM

  • It's easy to be positive when times are good. but when it seems that everything in life is not going well and you truly run into difficult times and situations, keeping a positive attitude is tough. The best way to keep a positive attitude during difficult times is to understand that tough times don't last forever. It is easier said than done, but here are a few steps which I feel may help:

    1. Focus on what you need to do right now, today. Thinking about what lies ahead is all right to a certain extent, but can lead to depression if you let it take hold on you in a negative way, or if you start to over-think a negative financial or other situation.
