Do you think the Indian media has been unfair in reporting on the 'race' attacks in Australia? Asked by Sarita Chaudhari on 04, Feb 2010 04:34 PM | Total Answers: (50) |
- Indian media has been irresponsible, hysterical and irrational in its reporting on Australia. We are disgusted with their reports. They were one-sided. They cried racism for assaults on students without any real evidence. Australia has a crime problem like India, albeit 3 times less than India. Indian media chose to shut its eyes for the crime committed by Indian students, contract marriages by them and rorts/frauds committed by these Indian students. I am outraged with a segment of Indian media and TimesNow in particular for their imbalanced reporting on OZ. I challenge NDTV, IBN-CNN, TimesNow and Print media to debate with us before they write their nonsense on Australia. After all, we are the long term residents/citizens of ...See More Answered by Yadu Singh , Dr at Nil | 08, Mar 2010 05:37 AM

First of all they are no race attacks. Yes Indian media has sensationalised it beyond limits. Instead the media should have focussed its energies towards the marriage and students migration rackets prospering in the interiors of Punjab and Gujarat.
In fact there is more racism in India itself. Answered by Ashok Kumar , Editor at The Indian Sub-continent Times | 07, Mar 2010 09:58 AM

Dear AM
Many many Indians were vocal about following USA's example (achievement?) of not allowing 9/11 to repeat since 2001. Coming to our own country...well... forget it!

- Indian media has always reported the attacks on Indian. However the reason behind most of the attacks was not known. Hence all attacks may not be treated same. There will have to be deep understanding of this issue and serious dialogues between both countries. Indian media will play important role in this matter. Not all TV Channels give responsible coverage. Few channels are interested in TRP and paid contents only. - Indian Media has time and again played important role...they are the ones giving jitters to Ausralians, they are the ones to push them in the corner till they agreed and now the Premier has gone and met one of our Ausie Commissioner and assured that required action would be taken. But I feel it is very much shameful for them to acknowledge that there exists Racial Attacks in Ausie..!! I did not know that it is our country's great achievement that 26.11.08 has not been repeated within one year; the way you took pride in it, it was almost as though a repeat performance was expected. Answered by Abhik Mukhopadhyay , TRANSMISSION EXECUTIVE at All India Radio | 07, Feb 2010 04:36 PM

This is the problem with us Indians. We try to introspect alright, but in the process we get biased, clouded and political. Well, it's the performance of the govt, if it's good does it matter whether it's Congress or NDA?
Why only the media who brazenly breaks news about husband beating his wife up. the never ending TV serials endlessly sucks on our biased blood.

Dear Abhik Mukhopadhyay,
You hit the nail on the head. Previously Print Media was generally anti establishment. The masses in this country were uneducated and poor, media protected the interest of the common man and brought to them the news and information as close to the truth as was possible in those days. Now that the literacy rate has increased, the media print and electronic have realized that they stand to gain as a business venture, and as editors. Hence have become the hand maiden of the Congress, and Gandhi Family! You post comments on any of the websites of the Print or Electronic Media if your comments are critical of the Congress, its first family or the Editor those either will not be posted or will appear in a ...See More Answered by Anil Kohli , Owner at I-Ore Trading | 05, Feb 2010 11:40 PM

I should like to make two observations.
The primary purpose of the media is to report, to inform. This the media have done in re the racial attacks in Australia. But why has every reporting exercise on TV got to be a melodramatic Shah Rukh Khan performance? Why are some reports in the print media so high on emotion content? Quite apart from the annoyance it causes, it kills the report itself. The Indian media has not been taught one elementary lesson: that content of a news item is just as important as is the way in which it is presented. Poor and immature presentation, presentations high on sensationalism or commercialism put a question mark on content itself and makes the veracity of the report suspect.

- Our Media is hyper! TIMESNOW in particular has trained its reporters to deliver news in a breathless fashion which amplifies even the most mundane event as earth shattering. This is nothing more than sensationalism. This "Breaking News" Culture and "Exclusive" scoop is what is leading to a lot of avoidable anxiety with Indians. The incidents 400plus cannot just be dismissed as non racial in nature or cannot be classified as racial in toto. Answered by Anil Kohli , Owner at I-Ore Trading | 05, Feb 2010 08:03 PM
- Sunita is logicaj in her observation. A kind of social change is happening all over. We as Indians should see it in more practical way. Change comes with lot of here n there. Media should keep a vigil but not propagate it for some Tadka in the news. Answered by Nazim Naqvi , Television Media at freelancing | 05, Feb 2010 06:14 PM
- Yes, Indian Media has a habit of blowing things up.I feel that it is a storm in a teacup. If racial discrimination does happen in a foreign land, we Indians are very much responsible for it. We have the habit of colonising ourselves into small groups in foreign lands and not mixing up with the local inhabitants there. As the saying goes- when in Rome be like the Romans . We never had such reportings earlier. Which only goes to show that for a few of the recent batch of NRI's in Australia that have a "Nose in the Air" attitude, the rest suffers. I only hope and pray that such race attacks against Indians do not happen in other foreign lands as well. No. At least somebody/some medium is reacting! I agree there can be some exaggeration. But it’s necessary to get noticed by the world in these issues so that some constructive steps can be taken and our countrymen can work/study with their head held high in a foreign country with the belief that we back home care and their country stands by them.
The sad part is how the Government is reacting to this news? In the midst of the excessive media frenzy, when it was not known that one of the supposed news was false, how our Government reacted? We are as spineless as in case of 26/11—look at Kasab, he is gradually becoming a celebrity, whereas in his country he is nothing but an illiterate drug addict bought as a human bomb, ...See More Answered by Poonam Nandi , Sr.Advisor , Sales at Assured India Advisory Services Pvt. - You cant say its fair or unfair in its reporting on race attacks in Australia. Media swarms or rather attacks on any matter and go all-out in reporting and making headlines hour after hour and channel after channel. Sometimes it is favourable also as it brings the attention to the problem to common man and the govt is forced to act on the matter. SOmetimes it is bad as the govt may act too swiftly or may not be rational in its reply. BUt you have to remember that an enlightened or awake or hyper media activity is preferable any day than no media coverage at all! I really don't know. I end up with another question again and again 'Why only Indian students are being targeted?' Some Indian media person should go there and find out first hand.
Political stories are becoming the latest sensation nowadays like the 'Whose Mumbai?' controversy. Politics is squeezed out of it rather than presenting the story.
The heat between Andrew Symonds and Harbhajan Singh was also and immediately termed racial without trying to find out what Harbhajan actually did or did not. Harbhajan also slapped Sree Santh. What about that? Was that regional instead of racial? we show what is right.., but sometimes our sentiments fevers ours countrymen. despite the truth.., racial attacks which is going on in australia.. indian media has tried to give the proper news only.
as we know, it is not the issue of todays. but in europian countries the racial feelings still exist.., why only in australia.. in britain and some other countries.., indians are facing a fatal push.
in the whole scenario, indian media is playing a big role to make pressure on indian govt to take action or to warn the country for the security of indians in abroad. Answered by Akbar Rizvi , Bulletin Producer at ETV Network | 04, Feb 2010 08:42 PM

Anti Indian sentiments are being festered in a systematic and well orchestered manner, only smart and intelligent amongst can discern
